Complete with a headphone output, this DM5 package enables players of all skill levels to practice quietly or take to the stage with confidence.

A classic drum-sound module for drummers, programmers, and producers, the Alesis DM5 18-bit drum module contains 540 stereo, 18-bit drum sounds that can be assigned to any of the 21 programmable drumsets. And 12 trigger inputs enable DM5 to be used with all Alesis drum and cymbal pads, SURGE Cymbals, and the triggering devices from most other major manufacturers.

The Alesis DM5 drum module (see also a larger schematic of front controls and rear ports.

This drum module also has full MIDI I/O so it can be used as a sound source for composing, programming, and sequencing with a wide variety of controllers including keyboards, pad triggers, MPCs, and more. Built-in Alesis studio effects including reverb and ambiance ensure that you can send a complete, finished sound to the PA, recording system, and your headphones with no additional processing. And the DMF offers Alesis' exclusive Dynamic Articulation technology, which modifies sample sounds so they change as you play them.

Combine the DM5 with this 5-piece pro drum kit and SURGE cymbals for maximum versatility (see larger image).

  • 540 drum, percussion, and cymbal sounds
  • Dynamic Articulation modulates tone and pitch of sounds for realism
  • Stereo samples with reverb and ambiance
  • Seven-position, user programmable panning
  • 128 dynamic levels via MIDI or trigger inputs
  • 21 drumset-memory locations with defaults stored permanently
  • Single rack space module

Dynamic Articulation
Discerning ears will notice that each sound is actually a series of different samples; multiple dynamic-level samples and articulations are all built in so as you play harder and softer, the drum or cymbal changes its timbre, not just its volume. This engineered realism is known as Dynamic Articulation, an Alesis exclusive.

This results in sounds that respond accurately not only to dynamic changes, but also with the appropriate timbral and color changes you'd expect from their acoustic counterparts. You can play with or without reverb for different room sounds and enjoy a wide variety of rimshots, rim clicks and different stick-placement sounds on the cymbals. The Random Sample feature also ensures you don't get the same sound twice for further creative realism.

Alesis DM5 Pro Kit it is one of the best purchase of the year for us. It is my son Christmas present and he loves it . Professionally built with excellent sound system. If you have professionalism in mind without the aggravation of the loud noise or if you simply want to have the option, this is the item for you.

5 out of 5 stars great price, great kit   June 11, 2009

I've been thrilled with the quality of the set and the sounds. There are only 20 kits, but each has got really good sounds. Note, you have to purchase separately a bass pedal and this is something you don't want to skimp on. I've run the kit now through a full PA and it sounds as good as when we've mic'ed a full kit. I bought it just to practice and build me chops. I found the cymbals sensitivity needed a bit of tweaking because they were accidentally firing when I hit the toms, but other than that I've not had to do much adjustment. For the price, I'd highly recommend.

Just got this kit (from another seller, but wanted to give feedback here).

I'm not an experienced drummer, and this is my first e-drum, purchased for my 13yr old son. But I like to think I know something about music, audio, and electronics. With that intro I hereby declare, this kit looks great and it rocks !

The beauty of e-drums is they take up less space, and can be played with headphones at significantly lower noise. And with this kit you can play and customize 20 different drum kits, in one kit.

The sampled drums sound very realistic, and there is an incredible selection of over 500 sounds. The drum & Cymbal triggers pickup consistently, but sometimes miss on a soft hit - But the DM5 has adjustments for that and we have only begun customizing and tweeking it. It has alot of "Pro" features and is very customizable for a kit priced closer to entry-level. I thought I might replace the mylar heads with mesh heads, but the black mylars look good and are pretty quiet. The DM5 has 2 extra trigger inputs and we may connect two additional triggers such as the Remo practice pads that we electified per instructions found on the web.

Granted, this is not a Roland TD20, but it doesn't cost anything near that, and seems to offer alot more than the Roland V-Drum Lite for the same price. The quality of the hardware is more than I expected - nice 1.5" anodized alum tube frame, solid metal (brass?) cymbals, well-built DM5 controller & cables. Time will tell how well it holds up - how many sensitive electronic products are designed to be beaten with a stick ?

Aside from some flaws in the assembly instructions - the instructions are mis-labelled regarding the Dual-Zone inputs, and it would have been nice if they gave more guidance/pointers on assembling the frame - I put it together in about one hour.
