| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description For almost 20 years, the Epiphone PR-5E acoustic-electric guitar has taken the stage with countless musicians. Designed by Epiphone in 1990, its distinctive body shape was patterned after Epiphone's classic 335 guitars such as the Sheraton and Casino. But instead of a double-cutaway, it features a unique, single "Florentine" or sharp cutaway. The result is a large lower bout providing excellent lows and solid mid-range with easy access to the upper frets on the neck. The premium select spruce top uses a hand-scalloped, proprietary X-bracing pattern. Combined with the slightly arched mahogany back and mahogany sides, the PR-5E provides a sweet tone that projects well even when unplugged. Its Mahogany neck with SlimTaper profile, makes the PR-5E very easy and comfortable to play without fatigue. Legendary Grover machine heads for tuning accuracy and stability with premium gold hardware and split-diamond, pearloid fingerboard inlays make the PR-5E an extraordinary value.Recently updated with Epiphone's eSonic preamp and NanoFlex pickup system, the PR-5E comes alive when plugged in. Made in cooperation with Shadow Germany, the eSonic preamp features a built-in, easy to use tuner. When engaged, the guitar's output is automatically mutedmdash;with no "popping" noisemdash;making it a perfect choice for stage use. Other controls on this state-of-the-art preamp include master volume, bass, treble, EQ shape, low battery indicator and a phase switch to help eliminate unwanted feedback. The preamp uses two 2032 lithium watch batteries that are not only lightweight, but provide significantly longer life than heavy 9V batteries. Under the PR-5E's compensated saddle is Shadow's proprietary NanoFlex low-impedance pickup. Not a piezo, this unique flexible sensing material features integrated active electronics and picks up not only string vibration but also top and body vibrations as well for a truly acoustic tone without the harshness of pi

| Customer Reviews: Excellent instrument December 14, 2009 Miguel Andrews (Trinidad) Firstly, let me say that I have been playing guitars for about fifteen years. I have played good guitars, and crappy ones, and I'll just say...
br /This is a very, very, very cool guitar. If you need a guitar and are strapped for cash, I think this is the best bet. It's compact, but has a big sound. The electronics, are decent, definitely not as durable as say a martin, but fantastic for the price, it also has a built in tuner, so you can do tune checks just about anywhere (one you've got batteries). The guitar is made in China, as all Epiphones tend to be, but inspected in the USA, and the material quality is good.
br /The neck is a bit on the narrow side, and may not be favorable to people with large hands. The tone is uniform throughout the neck and the guitar keeps its tuning very well even after hours of strumming.
br /All in all, I would recommend to someone looking for a decent, afordable, beautiful-looking, acoustic electric. - Good job Epiphone!!!
good guitar for the price September 8, 2009 Claudia C. Gueiros (Pernambuco, Brasil) good guitar for the price...

br /I just tested it acousticaly, but i read many reviews that it sounds beautifull pluged in...
br /
br /this guitar is absolutely beautiful... the tuner is great, uses 2 watch bateries.
br /
br /the strings came a bit high, probably I'll take my guitar to a luthier to do a better setup.
br /
br /the sound is good considering that it has a slim body
br /
br /the tone is not full, but it is very bright....
br /
br /today I put new strings and it did not loose the tune after some warm up.

I love my Epiphone December 14, 2008 Lana A. Hutcheson (Tallahassee FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After buying this guitar new, I had to have the neck adjusted now it is so nice I couldnt be more pleased with the sound and action of this guitar. Also the inlays are so beautiful and the golden Grover keys really set it off. Beautiful!
Great for $300! December 20, 2005 Sergio N. Diaz Harris (Mexico City, Mexico) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this guitar from Music 123, a little hesitant about buying a guitar that I had never heard. But as soon as I got it I was amazed by how good it sounds, specially plugged in. The thin body makes it very comfortable to play and the strap attaches at both supports on the body which makes it more comfortable than guitars that where you have to tie the strap to the top of the neck. The great looks of this guitar alone make it seem worth more than $300. Overall, I would say get it if you don't want to spend more than $500 for a takamine or yamaha (which sound better, but cost a lot more). Good for doing rythm guitar or leading worship or something like that.
